Meet our Grantees
Southside Harm Reduction Services provides supplies to reduce the spread of disease, distributes naloxone to reverse opioid overdoses, and refers people to health care, and social services.
Outreach Lead:
I’m the outreach lead for South Side Harm Reduction.
I just wanna start from the beginning. We offer community. We offer love. We offer our shared and lived experiences. We’re here to save lives and to take care of our people.
And as for services and programming and whatnot, we do deliveries, we do outreach, we do community meetings with our participants. We do HIV testing. We do tabling opportunities, education as well. We visit schools. We are often looked at with other agencies of, hey, can you teach us the principles of harm reduction?
We’re also just really nice people, you know? We welcome people to come into our office and have genuine conversations with us, especially people that do not understand harm reduction. We open up that space to have those critical conversations. It’s so important whenever it comes to impact or change.
Harm reduction. Humbly, to me, it’s a way of life. I’m indigenous, so it’s being a good relative is what I’ll call it. It’s being non-judgmental. It’s coming as a caring, compassionate person. It’s respecting and honoring another person’s autonomy.
Anything else I wanna say? Just thank you to those that are a part of this community. Thank you to those that do sit down and have critical conversations with us. Thank you to those that support us.
